Each step is crucial to successful replication and is therefore a potential target of antiretroviral drugs. Step one is the infection of a …

What drugs have achieved is to reduce the virus to a point where it is undetectable in blood; by inhibiting its replication and propagation (transcriptase inhibitors analogue and non analogues to nucleosides and nucleotides, protease inhibitors, fusion inhibitors). Just one pill a day.
HIV is the virus that causes the disease, or syndrome, which is AIDS. Thanks to these drugs AIDS is diminishing but the HIV infection is still growing. Man infecting women is the number 1 transmission mechanism.

    @deathtrapdeath

Your argument makes no sense: because we have not found a solution to a problem that problem is invalid. And your blatantly wrong about AIDS research, because of AIDS research, AIDS is no longer an absolute death sentence and people can fight HIV, some can even live full life spans thanks to antiretrovirals that resulted from AIDS research. There is also hope for a vaccine as one in another country seemed to work with some people.

Most Christian denominations have dismissed that view. I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is any scripture that could prove that.

@hailo666, proof of that? :P Until then it’s all speculation using religious interpretation on your part.

yeah i think so. I believe its a punishment in this world for having multiple sexual partners. If some gets the virus and they dont deserve it, they get compensated in the afterlife in heaven. What goes around comes around. HIV is a sign that humans are getting too out of control.

Stallings et al. (2009) reported that, in Tanzanian women,
the risk of HIV among women who had undergone FGC
was roughly half that of women who had not; the association
remained significant after adjusting for region, household
wealth, age, lifetime partners, union status, and recent ulcer.

you need an antiretroviral cocktail. speak to an MD immediately.

i think the uncle who doesn;t need drugs probably has a really good immune system. or, it could also be that a mutation in one of the chemokine receptors (CCR5 or CXCR4) is preventing viral fusion with the host cell. in any case, it’s good that they’re healthy. but it’s obvious that there are stupid people out there who believe HIV is not a problem. LOOK at sub-saharan africa. their infection rates are in double digits: EPIDEMIC status. come on people

  21. MrYoseef on January 18, 2010 4:15 am

what treatment? becuase iam infected with HIV

  22. cainemac on January 18, 2010 4:18 am

i agree with u however that the new “rise & die” therapy studies for an eradication are exciting. We still know that there is at least 1, possibly 2, unidentified viral sanctuaries that keep providing a steady stream to refill the reservoir. and these are completely separate and disctinct from the ‘latent’ cd4+ sanctuary commonly talked about.. its a few years off yet unfortunately. *sigh*
Margaret Fischl’s new therapeudic vaccine will revolutionise treatment however. very soon.

Sorry i actually wrote that comment beginning with the word ‘myth’ in response to another fellas Q about Magic Johnson., i dont know why it doesn’t appear beneath his post.
in reference to yours tho, i believe the phrase you’re looking for is: “There is an average time for HIV to cause AIDS” yes. HIV is a cause, AIDS is a symptom. not the other way around. nothing ‘ causes’ HIV infection. but HIV infection develops AIDS. i repeat however that there IS NO Latent/incubation period at any point.

  24. 260191894 on January 18, 2010 5:33 am

I did not say he was cured. It does take that long for this lentivirus to cause HIV. I study molecular biology: keep in mind that is it an average. I am happy that your uncles are healthy: they are always exceptions to the rule.

  25. cainemac on January 18, 2010 6:23 am

the gradual decline of cd4+ cells to below around 200 (depending on where u live) in the blood happens over time. At this point you clinically have A.I.D.S. But make no mistake your viral load is a rapdily changing factor from the second you are infected until the need to go onto medications. (around 350) there IS NO ‘incubation’ or latent period. However if an HIV particle infects a cd4+ that is chemically shutting down it encases the viral genome inside and doesnt allow it to reproduce ctnd..
